Hi, everyone. It’s Ron from bootstrapvideomarketing.com. Thanks for joining me. And in this video series I’m going to talk about video marketing strategy. I’ve noticed that there’s a lot out there on video marketing strategy and I figured I’d through my hat into the ring. I was going to create one video; but it could go on for a long time. So what I decided to do was break it down into bite-size chunks.
In this first video I’m going to quickly just talk about what a video marketing strategy is and what it’s not. Specifically what it’s not, which then will give you an idea of what it is. And I’ll quickly go through the elements; the other five parts of the video series which basically is the five steps to creating a video marketing strategy.
Now throughout this video series I’m going to call it a video marketing strategy because it’s easier and most people think of it that way. But what video marketing strategy is not is; it’s not really a strategy at all. It’s part of your overall marketing strategy. Now a marketing strategy…I’m not going to go into the details [here]. Just do a Google search for marketing strategy, strategic marketing, the four Ps, those types of things, and you’ll find the details.
A marketing strategy talks about who your target audience is, what your price is for a specific product or a service, research that shows that your product or service is actually going to meet the needs of that specific market niche or that specific market , the target market. It also talks about demographics of that target. It talks about segmenting that target market, so it goes on and on and on. And it also talks about, there’s a place called Promotion in your marketing strategy as well.
So, in the promotions section, you would find items such as your advertising. Now advertising is part of your video marketing. And so video marketing is a part of the whole. And so you can’t have it by itself. Because a lot of what I’m going to go through and the way that you create your video marketing strategy is that you have to have some direction. And so the marketing plan, the marketing strategy that talks about everything, is your guide. So again Google vid, I’m sorry Google marketing strategy and you’ll see how to create one. It doesn’t have to be complex. It doesn’t have to be 20, 40, 50 pages. It can literally be a piece of paper like I have now; bullet points, brainstorm, mind map, whatever it might be. But as long as you’ve done the research and you know your product and you have everything out, that’s the most important thing.
So, what I’m going to do right now is just go through the five elements of a video marketing strategy. One is “Determine the Purpose of your Video Marketing Efforts”. The second one is “You have to Create Measurements” to ensure that these videos that you’re putting forward are actually effective and they’re doing what they’re supposed to do. The next, uh, number three, the third part of a video marketing strategy is “You have to choose the type of videos that you’re going to produce”. So there’s lots of different ways to produce video, to create video and in this series we’ll discuss the common ways to find which videos you need to produce based on your target, your segment, how you’re segmenting your market, etc.
Number four is “You need to figure out your distribution and your promotional strategy”. How are you going to distribute the videos, how are you going to promote the videos because if you just put the videos on YouTube and no one’s watching them, there’s really no purpose. So how are you going to distribute them and how are you going to promote them? And finally the last part which kind of goes a little bit with the promotional side is “Search Engine Optimization or SEO”. How are you going to optimize those videos to make sure that people are finding them through organic searches or going to YouTube and doing searches, that type of thing.
Also, if you just have them on your website how are you going to properly index it so that the video comes up in a search of your website, that type of thing. So those are the four main areas. Just to review them again, “Determine the Purpose of your Video Marketing Efforts”; “How are you going to measure those efforts?”; “The types of videos you’re going to produce”; “The Distribution and the Promotion”, and then “Search Engine Optimization”.
